What’s special about đen’s robusta beans vs other robusta beans?

Traditionally, robusta beans were used in mass instant coffee production and have been associated with bitterness and inferiority against arabica beans. Times have changed and fine robusta coffee has entered the market. 

đen’s signature blend – The OG, contains robusta beans that are carefully selected and contains 10% peaberry coffee. It’s chocolatey, nutty, smooth and packed full of flavour. 

If you’re usually an arabica fan, we’d suggest you give our signature blend a go! You might be surprised. You could even mix it with an arabica bean of your choice to see how it turns out. What’s peaberry coffee?

Peaberry coffee is a natural mutation of the coffee bean where only one bean develops in the coffee cherry instead of two. They are rarer, as it happens to about 5-10% of coffee cherries. What makes them special is that all the nutrients go into one bean instead of two. So they naturally have a more concentrated and brighter flavour.

What’s sun-dried beans instead of washed?

Most coffee on the market is washed. This means the fruity outer layer of the coffee cherry is stripped away with water before drying. We do things a bit differently. Our beans are sun-dried the traditional way, using the natural heat of Vietnam’s tropical sun with the whole cherry left intact. The result? A deeper, fruiter, more intense flavour. Plus, this process helps save water and reduces overall environmental impact.

How strong is your coffee?

Strong! Our beans have almost double the caffeine content of your average cup made with arabica from other regions, which means you’re technically cutting down your coffee intakes (well, kind of 😉).

How sustainable are you?

We use a single-origin robusta blend because of its resistance against environmental changes, meaning they have fewer bugs and require less pesticides. These beans are also sun-dried, not washed to restrict water usage.

We’ve also invested in packaging solutions that you can compost or recycle.
